The Get advice section on this website is full of answers to common housing problems. The advice for young people section provides advice tailored to the housing needs of young people. We also have information for disabled people and information for landlords. For people who are new to the web, start with the Easy access section, and if you think housing issues don't affect you, watch a short film. If these pages don't offer what you need, you can also get advice by email.

Our free housing advice helpline on 0808 800 4444 is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. (This line is also free to call from all six of the main UK mobile networks, Virgin, Orange, 3, T-mobile, Vodafone and O2, but charges may apply from any other network.)

Housing advice services

Shelter has a network of housing advice services across England and Scotland offering expert information, advice and advocacy. Our advisers let people know what their rights are and explain their housing options. Advisers can also help clients negotiate with councils, landlords and lenders.
