Our achievements in 2008

Following on from the successes of 2007, when the hard work of our supporters secured a historic government pledge to build three million homes, including affordable housing for families in desperate need, 2008 was another year of successes for Shelter's hard-working campaigners and supporters.

Shelter Scotland wins Campaign of the Year

Shelter Scotland fended off stiff competition from fellow nominees SCIAF and West of Scotland’s Forum to scoop Campaign of the Year 2008. The award recognized their successful 30,000 Homes campaign which targeted the Scottish Government to build 30,000 new affordable homes for rent over the next three years. The award was presented by John Swinney, Minister for Finance and Sustainable Growth, which includes responsibility for the third sector in Scotland.

Hometime Scotland Handover

Graeme Brown, Shelter Scotland’s Director, handed over 4,000 Hometime Scotland postcards to Nicola Sturgeon, Deputy First Minister in front of the Scottish Parliament on the 19th of November.  The postcards had been signed by people throughout Scotland in support of the Scottish government's pledge that every homeless person will be entitled to a home by 2012.
The postcard handover was a big success with 41 MSPs pledging to keep the 2012 target and coverage by several major publications.
