RIBA
2008 marks the twelfth year of Shelter's partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
Our shared values
The RIBA and Shelter share many values, particularly the conviction that good design is fundamental to good housing. These common beliefs are the cornerstone of our successful partnership.
About the partnership
The RIBA, a not-for-profit-organisation, supports Shelter through activities and events during Architecture Week and particularly through its flagship RIBA Architect in the House scheme (AITH).
During Architecture Week in June this year, members of the public registered for the scheme and were matched with architects in their area. Architects then spent an hour giving participants expert advice about design, layout and home improvements. In return, participants made a small donation to Shelter of £40 or more.
Raising awareness
Over the past ten years, this partnership has raised more than £670,000 for homeless and badly housed people, and generated huge public awareness for RIBA & Shelter. Additionally, thanks to RIBA Architect in the House, thousands of people have been introduced to the benefits of commissioning an architect.
