Web buddies

As part of the Housing advice for everyone digital inclusion project, web buddies offered help and support to get people started using the advice pages on this website.

What is a web buddy?

A web buddy is a volunteer who helps people get started using Shelter's advice website. They  don't look up the information or tell anyone what to do, they simply offer a bit of support and guidance, helping people make the most of the site.

Web buddyWeb buddies aren't housing advisers, so they don't give advice and information about housing issues. However, they can help someone find the information they need to start dealing with their situation. For example, a web buddy could help someone find information about their housing rights, download a letter and print it out, or find a telephone number of an agency that can give more help.

What is Housing advice for everyone?

Housing advice for everyone was a digital inclusion feasibility pilot. Part of the work involved placing web buddies in community venues around Scotland. Although the official pilot has now ended, some partner organisations have adapted the approach and will continue to provide assistance to people wanting to use the Shelter website. You can read more about the project here.

Can I be a web buddy?

At the moment we're not taking applications from prospective web buddies.  However, we are looking at new ways to work with web buddies in the future.
