Once you have made your homeless application and been interviewed by a homelessness officer, you should be offered somewhere to stay while the council makes inquiries into your situation. If necessary, the council should also store your belongings for you while you are staying in temporary accommodation.

Temporary accommodation

When you make a homelessness application to the council, it must offer you somewhere to stay while it looks into your situation if you have nowhere else to go. This page explains when you are entitled to temporary accommodation from the council, what it is like and what you can do if you have problems staying there.

This page explains the duties that the council has to protect your personal belongings and furniture if you apply to it for help because you are homeless. It also explains what you can do about your pets when you become homeless.
