Who can apply as homeless?

This content applies to Scotland only.

Housing laws vary between Scotland and England. Get advice relating to England

The council has to accept an application for help from anyone who appears to be homeless or is likely to become homeless within two months. However, some people, such as asylum seekers, are not entitled to help from the council. This section explains who is eligible, and what you can do if you can't get help from the council.

What if I can't apply?

What reasons the council may give for turning down your application and what you can do in this situation. Even if you're still in your home but will be homeless in 2 months or less you can still apply.

Eligibility

If you're from abroad you may not be eligible for help from the council. Check how they decide whether you are eligible, and what you can do if the council makes this decision.
