If you leave a social tenancy without letting the housing department or your the registered social landlord you rent with know, this is called abandonment. If the council or registered social landlord thinks that you have left your home without telling them and you do not intend to return to live there, they can take action to end your tenancy. This action is called abandonment proceedings.
