A compulsory purchase order (CPO) is an order that gives a public authority the legal power to buy your home or land from you. If an authority such as the council needs to acquire land in order to carry out work for the benefit of the general public, they can apply to the Scottish Ministers for a CPO. You can find out more about CPOs here.
