Sheriff courts deal with both civil law and criminal law cases. Most court cases in Scotland go to the sheriff court. There are 49 sheriff courts in Scotland split between six areas (called sheriffdoms). If you have to go to court because of a housing problem, it is likely to be the sheriff court.
