Make your voice heard
This Christmas, lift up your voice in song – and raise money for people in housing need.
It's a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and do something fun with friends, family or colleagues, while raising money for Shelter's vital work.
Organising your carol-singing event
Step 1 get together
Friends, family, Brownies, Guides, Scouts, music or sports clubs any group can get together and sing carols for Shelter.
Step 2 find a venue, set a date
You can sing in lots of different places, including shopping centres, theatre foyers, sports events, fairs, markets or or train stations, and door-to-door. Read legal information on collections
Step 3 register, and order your free Shelter materials
Complete the form to let us know about your event, and to order great Shelter fundraising materials: collection tins, collector's badges, posters, leaflets, balloons, stickers and authority cards. You can also download the poster
Step 4 spread the word
Put posters up in prominent spots and invite everyone you know to turn out and support you. Download a copy of our fundraising guide and information on contacting the local media.
Step 5 get practising
It's time to make beautiful music! Download your carol sheets here. Can't hold a tune? You can still get involved. Why not play a percussion instrument, bake mince pies and make mulled wine to sell, or arrange a raffle to hold on the day? Download a copy of our fundraising guide for information on holding raffles.
Step 6 sing your heart out
Enjoy the day! Download your carol sheets here. Try wearing festive garb to get people's attention, and decorate the area you're singing in with tinsel, fairy lights or mistletoe. Send some pictures to singing@shelter.org.uk, and we might use them in our supporter newsletter.
Step 7 after the event
Nominate a treasurer to count the money, then send it to us, along with your collection tins and any unused fundraising materials. Find out more about counting and sending in your donation
