Landlord registration helps councils monitor private landlords and ensure that they are suitable people to let out property. The landlord register was introduced in April 2006, so is a relatively new system. This section looks at how the registration process works and what the register means for tenants.
About landlord registration
Every council in Scotland now holds a formal register of all landlords and letting agents in their area. You can consult the registers of all councils through a central website provided by the Scottish Government. This page looks at what the system means for tenants. Read more 
The fit and proper person test
