The carbon emissions reduction target (CERT) runs various schemes across the UK to help tenants and home owners pay for insulation and other fuel saving measures.

What is the carbon emissions reduction target?

The carbon emissions reduction target is financed by the UK's fuel utility companies and replaces the energy effciency commitment fund. The money contributed by the fuel companies is used to fund various energy efficiency schemes for home owners and tenants. Some schemes are UK-wide, whilst others are run locally. Some are run directly by the fuel companies, whilst others are carried out in partnership with local councils, housing associations and other relevant agencies.

What do CERT schemes offer?

Most of the schemes offer reduced home insulation, usually at a 50 per cent discount, and some may offer interest free repayment packages as well. The work will be carried out by approved contractors and will meet all national standards.

Some schemes finance other projects, such as:

discounted energy efficient appliances, for example A rated fridge freezers and washing machines
half price low energy light bulbs.

Who can apply?

All home owners are eligible for these projects, but they are particularly helpful for people who are low income and also older people up to the age of 70. Some projects will provide free insulation for people who do qualify for the warm deal. If you are a tenant, you will have to ask permission from your landlord before the work can go ahead.
