Help to pay for repairs, improvements and adaptations

If you need to carry out repair, improvement or adaptation work to your home, you may be able to get some financial help. This will depend on the kind of work you want to do, and on your personal circumstances. If you own your home or rent privately, you can apply for a home repair and improvement grant. If you are elderly or disabled, you may also be able to get help from care and repair, or social work. If your home is of significant historic interest, you may be able to get a grant from Historic Scotland.
Repair and improvement grants
Keeping your home in good condition can be expensive. If you own your home or rent from a private landlord, you can apply for a grant for improvements, repairs or adaptations. You can only get a grant for certain types of work and grants are means-tested. Read more

Grants for historic buildings
If you are a home owner or hold a full repairing lease, and your property is of particular historic interest, you may be able to get a grant from Historic Scotland to carry out essential repairs. In return, you will need to insure and maintain the property, and allow some access for visitors. Read more
