Benefits, money and debt
This content applies to Scotland only.
Financial issues are closely related to the housing choices that people can make. Shelter has campaigned for many years for changes to the housing benefit system to make it fairer and less complex, problems that can end with the system failing the people that it was designed to help.
Shelter's policy work on benefits, money and debt
Shelter's recommendations for reform of the housing benefit system can be accessed in the policy library, as can our work on the reforms to the debt and credit system that are currently being piloted by the UK Government.
Key policy documents on benefits, money and debt
- Stage One of the Bankruptcy and Diligence Bill
This paper sets out Shelter's written evidence on Stage One of the Bill's progress through parliament. Our evidence centres on the potential for increased homelessness as a result of specific provisions contained in the Bill. - Policy briefing: housing benefit
This looks at the way government policy supports, and often fails to support, people on low incomes to meet their housing costs.
Research on benefits, money and debt
Our Recent publications page often contains links to publications highlighting issues connected to benefits, tax credits, debt and other financial matters.
