Responding to the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) review of the market in Scotland
21 August 2008
Graeme Brown, Director, Shelter Scotland, housing and homelessness charity, said: 'We have had increased enquiries from people struggling with mortgage payments - so whilst it is encouraging that there appears to be more resilient in Scotland, we don't want to see people overstretching themselves to get on the housing ladder.
'With repossession rates forecast to rise and more and more people coming off fixed rate mortgages there could be further problems ahead.
'This reinforces the importance of the Scottish Government's decision to bring forward up to £100 million to invest in affordable housing over the next two years, and fund an awareness raising campaign to encourage people to seek advice.'
