Response to £9m brought forward by Scottish Government
27 November 2008
Responding to Scottish Government's announcement of an extra £9 million for housing in Scotland, Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, housing and homelesness charity, said,
"The Scottish Government is making steps in the right direction. In the current market conditions, it is right to invest now, when it is most needed. We must remember however that this is about what year the existing pot of money is spent in, not increasing the overall pot for housing."
He added:"Shelter's submission to the Scottish Budget process (1) this year outlines that at best Scotland is only providing about 60 per cent of the investment needed to build the 10,000 affordable rented homes that we and other housing organisations believe are needed."
