Response to Gordon Brown's announcements on mortgages
3 December 2008
Responding to Gordon Brown's announcements on mortgages, Shelter Scotland Director Graeme Brown, said:
'This is great news for many thousands of homeowners struggling to keep a roof over their head this Christmas, and the millions more who fear what might happen if they lose their jobs.
'We look forward to seeing the full detail of these proposals and how they will help people to stay in their homes.
'We echo the call to all lenders, in particular sub-prime lenders, to sign up to this commitment, which is the first step in making sure that the 75,000 households across the UK, expected to be repossessed next year, is only a prediction rather than a reality.'
Notes to editors
- The figure of 75,000 households expected to be repossessed next year is a new estimate from the Council of Mortgage Lenders which appeared on the BBC website today.
