Response to sharp rise in landlord approval figures
3 December 2008
Shelter Scotland welcomed improvements in administration of the scheme but said that the focus must now move onto enforcing standards.
Graeme Brown, Director of Shelter Scotland, the housing and homelessness charity, said: 'It is almost three years since landlord registration was set up, and in that time almost all of the energy has been spent on administrative processes.
'These figures now indicate real progress. But the real purpose of the legislation was to reassure both tenants and good landlords that shoddy cowboy operators would be dealt with. That is where the focus needs to be.'
