Shelter Scotland calls on lenders to follow RBS lead on repossessions moratorium

1 December 2008

In response to the Royal Bank of Scotland's moratorium on repossessions, James Jopling, Head of Campaigns at Shelter Scotland, the leading housing and homelessness charity, said: 'As we approach Christmas all mortgage lenders must do everything they can to help keep people in their homes. All lenders should at the least follow RBS's lead and give as much time as possible to come to alternative arrangements.

'We are particularly pleased that RBS have said they would make sure customers have the opportunity to seek independent advice before starting legal action. But advice services in Scotland are stretched further than ever and we need increased funding to ensure we, and other advice providers, can help as many people as possible.'
