Shelter Scotland response to Scottish Government budget plan

12 January 2009

In response to the Scottish Government's 2009/2010 budget plan, Shelter Scotland welcomed news of £10 million for affordable housing but said that it needed to be set against the huge backlog of housing problems.

Graeme Brown, Director of Shelter Scotland, the housing and homelessness charity, said: "£10 million would build 130 homes. Last year 40,000 families were accepted as homeless. 10,000 are stuck in temporary accommodation. So, few of them will see the benefit of this additional money.

"Last year Shelter called for a programme of 10,000 new affordable rented homes a year. That case grows stronger with each passing day".
