Shelter Scotland responds to announcement of plans for 1,000 new homes
23 September 2010
Shelter Scotland today responded to the announcement of plans for 1,000 new homes under the National Housing Trust initiative.
Responding to the Scottish Government’s announcement today of plans for 1,000 new homes for rent through the National Housing Trust, Graeme Brown, Director of Shelter Scotland, the housing and homelessness charity, said:
“We welcome this initiative which plans to build greatly needed new rented homes. With cuts looming on the horizon, innovative and forward thinking measures are needed to boost housing supply and we look forward to seeing the National Housing Trust’s plans bear fruit.
“But more needs to be done at a time when over 160,000 households are stuck waiting for a home across Scotland. We want the Scottish Government to make building more affordable homes a national priority and put refurbishing and protecting those we already have and preventing homelessness at the heart of the political agenda.”
