Sue Perkins turns thrifty for Shelter’s Cake Time

18 February 2010

TV presenter and comedienne Sue Perkins is calling on the public to take part in Cake Time 2010, a fun and simple fundraising campaign in aid of Shelter.

The 'Big Food Fight' presenter has generously donated her very own recipe in support of Shelter's Cake Time. The charity is asking people to bake or buy their favourite cake and share it with friends, family or colleagues to help raise vital funds for the housing and homelessness charity.

This year's theme is 'make do and mend' and people are encouraged to use ingredients from their cupboards at home, rather than buying everything from new.

Sue's Butter Biscuits are just one of a host of scrumptious celebrity cake recipes that have been given in aid of Cake Time which is being supported by Santander. Other recipes include; TV presenter Sarah Beeny's Perfect Sponge Cake, rugby player Matt Dawson’s Triple Chocolate Brownies and 'Britain's Got Talent' judge Amanda Holden's Rocky Road Refrigerator Cake. All these and many more can be found on Shelter's website.

Sue said: 'Cake Time is a great way to practice your cake making skills, while using up the leftover ingredients from your kitchen cupboards. With deliciously simple recipes and top fundraising tips all available to download from Shelter's website, there really is no excuse not to get involved and help make a real difference.

'If you want to start baking but are lacking inspiration, why not have a go at baking my delicious Butter Biscuits, these will taste even better knowing you are raising money for homeless and badly housed people in Scotland and across the UK.'

Cake Time launches in February 2010 with a special dedicated Cake Week running from 13th – 19th March 2010. However, friends and colleagues are encouraged to support Shelter and indulge in Cake Time whenever it suits them best.
