Response to housing and construction bodies calling for greater investment in affordable housing
14 July 2011
Gordon MacRae, Head of Communications and Policy at Shelter Scotland, said:
“Calls by three key housing organisations for the Scottish Government to make housing a national priority is welcome news, none more so than to the 200,000 households on council waiting lists.
“These bodies are major players in the housing and construction industries and the government would do well to listen carefully to their well-respected voices.
“Investment in housing is investment in people. Unless the Scottish Government acts quickly to build more affordable and socially-rented homes, more people will face the human tragedy of homelessness.
“The SNP Government made a pledge in their manifesto to build 6,000 socially-rented homes per year. We urge them to fulfil this commitment by making housing a national priority.”
