Response to Scottish Power price rise

8 June 2011

Responding to Scottish Power’s announcement of a price rise, Gordon MacRae, Head of Communications & Policy at Shelter Scotland, said:

“Every time utility companies like Scottish Power push up their prices they make it much more difficult for people to pay their monthly bills.

“Struggling families could be forgiven for thinking that this latest price hike is part of an all out all-out assault on their household finances.

“Prices cannot keep going up - something’s got to give. Either the short-term profit margins of utility companies or, for families, the choice of heating or eating.  We fear that more families will not be able to pay their bills and eventually lose the fight to keep a roof over their head.”
