Edinburgh Families Project motion in Scottish Parliament

5 March 2009

The Scottish Parliament

Robin Harper, the Scottish Green Party MSP for the Lothians, marked the closure of Shelter's Families Project in Edinburgh with a motion in the Scottish Parliament.

In the motion, he expressed concern and regret at the closure of such a popular and successful project, and called on the Scottish Government to consider the closure in the context of the 2012 homelessness target.

He noted that the Edinburgh Families Project, 'delivered intensive support specifically to meet the needs of families struggling to leave behind a history of homelessness or families at risk of homelessness (and) that a unique aspect of the project was its separate support and advocacy for children and young people through working with child-support workers qualified in drama, art or play therapy (and) that this project transformed the lives of 415 families, directly helping around 800 children, during its 10-year history'.
