Great British Property Scandal

7 December 2011

Channel 4 has launched The Great British Property Scandal, a season of special programmes to investigate the housing crisis and consider possible solutions.

The season started on Monday 5 December when broadcaster and journalist Jon Snow continued his investigation into the reality of life for people who live in the private rented sector, in Dispatches: Landlords from Hell.

The series addresses the issue of Britain’s empty homes. Architect and long-standing Shelter supporter George Clarke is campaigning to bring empty homes back into use as a step towards solving the housing crisis.

Shelter Scotland is hosting the Scottish Empty Homes Partnership, which works with councils to bring empty homes back into use. There are 25,000 long term empty homes in Scotland. To make this a truly UK wide campaign we need you to add your voice to those who have already signed up to the campaign to bring empty homes back into use.

There are several ways you can help - sign up to the Channel 4 petition which calls for governments across the UK to take steps to make it easier for people like you and I to bring empty properties back into use; and you can report an empty home in your community so that your local council knows you are concerned.
