Housing summit at Scottish Parliament

13 November 2008

Shelter Scotland today (13 November) attended a housing summit at the Scottish Parliament, convened by Tavish Scott, leader of the Liberal Democrats in Scotland, and Ross Finnie, Liberal Democrat Housing spokesperson.

Shelter was joined by leading figures from housing organisations from across the country to develop ideas about the best way forward for supplying more affordable homes in Scotland.

James Jopling, Head of Campaigns, who attended the meeting, said " It is very encouraging that all political parties are taking the housing crisis in Scotland so seriously. Our job is to make sure these good intentions are followed-up with action, primarily to ensure that there is an increase in investment in affordable housing to rent in Scotland. With a minority government in Scotland, opposition parties all have a role to play in bringing pressure to bear and proposing new initiatives".
