Advanced Course in Homelessness
A two-day course which includes a high level of Knowledge into Practice exercises and case study work and is therefore suitable for experienced housing workers who already have a good working knowledge of homelessness and wish to consolidate that knowledge and consider the legislation in practice.
Aims
The course aims to:
- provide a detailed understanding of homelessness and the legislation related to it, including the rights and responsibilities of the statutory bodies
- examine the practical application of the legislation.
Course
The course content includes:- Why do people become homeless?
- Context and history of local authority involvement.
- The role of legislation, Code of Guidance, case law, policy and procedures.
- The concept of the 'four hurdles' and their definition with reference to legislation, Code of Guidance, case law and examples from practice.
- Examination of the key duties at each stage of the homelessness process.
- Notification letters.
- Examination of the advice and assistance requirements.
- Temporary, interim and permanent accommodation.
