Skills courses
The Shelter Scotland training team currently run a number of skills based courses aimed at local authority and voluntary agency staff involved in advising the public in housing matters. These courses would be ideal as part of a staff induction programme.
Foundation Advice Skills
This course can be used as an introduction to advisory work.
Aims:
- to ensure advisors have the necessary skills, confidence and resources to provide housing advice.
Course includes:
- practising key skills
- confidence building
- raising awareness of equal opportunities issues
- identifying and working with potential problems.
Advanced Advice Skills
This course builds on the Foundation Advice Skills and is suitable for staff with some experience of interviewing and advising the public.
Aims:
- to reinforce key advice skills in practice and develop an understanding of the interview process.
Course includes:
- dealing with difficult situations
- refining communication skills
- identifying and challenging discrimination.
The courses complement the existing public programme of knowledge-based courses and we would like to hear from individuals and organisations that would be interested in this training.
