Countdown to 2012 and the Scottish Budget
Over 1800 Shelter Scotland supporters have backed our Countdown to 2012 campaign for more affordable housing in the Scottish 2010/11 budget. The campaign was in full swing throughout the summer of 2009.
- We travelled the country collecting the public's views and stories on housing and homelessness.
- We collected thousands of imaginative drawings of home in support of the campaign.
- We delivered a Declaration for Housing to the Scottish Parliament listing the main reasons to make housing a priority in the budget.
- We invited MSPs from all parties to support our campaign with many sharing their personal views on video.
On 17 September the draft Scottish budget was published. While it did not have the money for affordable homes we wanted, our supporters' efforts ensured Alex Neil MSP, the Housing Minister, invited Shelter Scotland’s Director to make our case to him face to face.
The Scottish Parliament is listening to our call – and the budget's not final yet! We will continue to fight for more money for affordable housing until January when the budget is finally agreed.
Scotland needs this budget to be a 'Budget for Homes'. Help us to keep pressure on MSPs to ensure affordable housing is a top priority in the upcoming months. Support the campaign.
Thank you to all of our supporters for their continued fight for affordable housing in Scotland.
