Why campaign?
We live in one of the richest countries in the world and yet not everyone has a place they can call home. Shelter believes everyone should have a home. Our campaign supporters have already helped us to achieve vital changes to the laws that protect homeless people but there is more to do. You can join our fight for Scotland's housing future.
It really is a crucial time to join us - Scotland's politicians have promised that everyone should have a home by 2012. Your voice will help us to make sure that they stick to their promise.
Why does Shelter need me to campaign?
You can help us to put pressure on politicians to stick to their groundbreaking promise that everyone should have a home by 2012. Your voice, as a representative of the community, is the voice that is important to politicians. Everytime you contact your MSP you let them know that the public care about giving everyone a home.
Why should I campaign now?
Over the past year Shelter campaigned hard for enough money to be provided to build 30,000 new affordable rented homes to make sure Scotland meets the 2012 target. When the budget was delivered in November 2007 this funding was not there, and the housing budget for the next year had been cut.
We believe the 2012 target is still achievable, but we need to work hard to make sure the Government, local councils and other organisations focus on providing more homes, improving the quality of the homes that we have, and preventing people becoming homeless in the first place and helping them stay in their homes.
What should I do to get involved?
If you want to help regularly, you can become a campaign supporter. We will send you emails letting you know what you can do - it will usually involve sending a template email to your MSP or completing a questionnaire to let us know what you think.
You can also tell your friends. The more people who are on board, the better chance we have of making politicians listen. If you know people who might be interested in campaigning for Shelter, you can send them the link to this page.
