The Big Knit 2010

Following the success of last year’s ‘Big Knit’ at the Perthshire Amber Festival, this year Dougie MacLean, festival organiser,  is asking people to get their needles out again to help raise money for Shelter Scotland.

Dolly McLean with knitted blanketAs before, volunteers are invited to knit their own six inch coloured square. All the squares are sewn together by Dolly MacLean (Dougie’s mum) – to create a huge blanket, which is then auctioned off to raise money for Shelter Scotland.

Last year an anonymous bidder managed to claim the finished blanket for £700. This bid was matched by Edradour Distillery, and - along with a silent action of Dolly MacLean’s other work and various other donations - helped raise over £2,000.
