Volunteer at a Shelter project
Our Housing Support Projects provide practical help and support for people in temporary accommodation to help them resettle into permanent tenancies.
There are Housing Support Projects in Glasgow, South Lanarkshire and Dumfries. Please note that the Glasgow project offers a different type of volunteering opportunity from the other two.
Opportunities in Dumfries and South Lanarkshire
Volunteers have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of activities, depending on areas of interest, skills, strengths and experience. These may include:
- helping paint or decorate a new home
- helping people find out about services and support in their local area
- helping prepare and clean a new home
- befriending and providing support to adults or children, including going on outings
- helping with finances and accessing grants
- gardening
- helping with project administration or fundraising
- assisting at project events such as open days.

Opportunities in Glasgow
The Glasgow Housing Support Project only needs volunteers for its Education Support Service, which helps to address the barriers to learning caused by homelessness. Education Support Volunteers work alongside the project’s Education Liaison Worker (ELW) to provide dedicated weekly one to one or group homework support to children who are homeless.
