Shelter Scotland support service - Dumfries & Galloway

Project overview

Shelter Scotland Support Service - Dumfries & Galloway is a partnership between Shelter Scotland and Dumfries & Galloway Council.

We offer practical and emotional support for single people, couples and families living within Annandale & Eskdale, Stewartry and Wigtownshire (excluding Stranraer).

Call us on 0344 515 2390, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm

We can offer you advice and support if you are:

  • Homeless or worrying about losing a home .

  • Struggling financially or in rent arrears.

  • Living in poor conditions or in an overcrowded property .

  • Experiencing debt, money and benefit issues.

  • Under threat of eviction.

  • Living with domestic abuse.

Types of support we can offer:

  • Liaison with your homeless officer, school, social work (if required), health services and other support services.

  • Advice on money, debt, budgeting and help to maximise benefits.

  • Someone to go with you to view offers of accommodation.

  • Help to prepare for a move and source available funding for furniture and goods for your new home.

  • Assistance to get to know your new area i.e. finding new schools or local support services .

  • Support if you are affected by offending behaviour .

  • Support if you are experiencing mental or physical health issues .

  • Support to look at drug and alcohol issues .

  • Help with registering with a GP or dentist, advocacy at meetings, support to attend appointments etc.

We are also supported by Shelter Scotland’s specialist housing and money/debt advice services.

The project is funded by Dumfries & Galloway Council.

Our service is Regulated and Inspected by the Care Inspectorate in accordance with the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Act 2010, Part 5. The registered manager of this service is Sue Roberts and she can be contacted at for any queries, comments or complaints.
