Remember a Charity

How can we build a future without homelessness?

Though 75% of the UK population support charities during their lifetime, only 7% currently leave a legacy to a charity when writing a will. Remember A Charity was formed in 2000 and now has over 200 member charities working together to encourage more people to consider leaving a charitable gift in their will, once they’ve looked after their family and friends.

Remember A Charity in Your Will Week

Every year, Shelter Scotland supports Remember A Charity in Your Will Week, to raise awareness of the vital contribution people can make by leaving a gift in their will. This year’s week runs from 10 - 16 September.

Because of the generosity of people like you, we can continue our vital work - and even a small amount can make a big difference. That’s why we’re taking part in Remember A Charity in your Will Week.

What will you pass on?

This year, Remember a Charity’s members are coming together to launch Human – the world’s first charity-powered search engine. Combining 200 charities’ unique knowledge and expertise, Human enables the public to ask some of life’s biggest questions – like how we can build a future without homelessness - and to hear directly from charities, supporters and beneficiaries what they are doing in response.

Our own CEO Polly Neate has created a video that sets out Shelter’s ambitions for this. Support Remember a Charity Week by watching and sharing our video, which can be found at and will be live from Monday 10 September.

Help protect future generations from homelessness

Writing a will is one of the most important things you will ever do. After you’ve taken care of your loved ones, you might like to think of supporting Shelter Scotland or other causes you’re passionate about too. This one final gift – whatever the size – can make a truly significant difference to our work.

Shelter Scotland Shops take part

The presence of Remember A Charity Week will be felt on the high street with Shelter shops up and down the country supporting it through their window displays, as well as giving away Remember A Charity bookmarks.
