Shandor's story

When Shandor became disabled after an accident at work, he fell behind on rent and had to leave his home.

As well as worrying about a place to live, Shandor was terrified he'd lose access to his seven-year-old son Billy, who stays with him at weekends.

'I was just thinking "What happens now, where am I going to sleep? Where am I going to shower? Where's my son going to go? Am I still going to be able to have access to him?".'

After being passed from one council to another, Shandor was moved to a homeless shelter, where he spent last Christmas.

How you can help

Shandor called our helpline, and received advice from a Shelter adviser. With our support and help from a housing association, he's now found a safe, secure place to live.

But there are 128,000 homeless children in Britain right now, and we need your support. Just £10 can pay to answer an urgent call to our helpline, and £30 can pay for face-to-face advice that could help a family keep their home.

Our helpline receives a call every thirty seconds. We need your help so we can be there for everyone who needs us.
