Howdens Scottish Empty Homes Champion of the Year Awards 2019

The Howdens Scottish Empty Homes Champion of the Year Awards are held to showcase exemplary contributions to the field of private sector empty homes work in Scotland.

There are five categories in which you can nominate a person, organization or group that you feel deserves recognition.

Category

Best Collaborative Project

The Howdens Scottish Empty Homes Champion of the Year Award for this category will be given to the project that best demonstrates partnership working between two or more organisations to achieve a positive empty homes outcome.

The judges will consider the nature of the partnership working and the impact this had on the outcome of the project.

Outstanding Service

The Howdens Scottish Empty Homes Champion of the Year Award for this category will be given to an organisation that over the past year has best engaged in activity to bring private empty homes back into use. The judging criteria will include innovation, replicability, commitment to best practice sharing as well as outputs and outcomes.

Outstanding Individual

The Howdens Scottish Empty Homes Champion of the Year Award for this category will be given to an individual who over the past year has best engaged in activity to bring private empty homes back into use. This individual can be but doesn’t need to be an empty homes practitioner, for example the individual could also be an elected member, Housing Association partner, or a community member who has made an impact on empty homes in their area. This award is for an individual who has gone above and beyond the day job to promote and champion empty homes work in Scotland.

Oldest Long-term Empty Brought Back into Use

A new category for this year, this award will be given to the practitioner who has brought a property that has been empty for the longest period back into use over the last year. Tell us what caused the property to become empty, what kept it empty and what you did to make it a home again.

Best Before & After Photo

Every picture tells a story – the Howdens Scottish Empty Homes Champion of the Year Award for this category will be given to an individual or organisation who has submitted the best before and after photo of an empty property brought back into use. This can be a single before and after photo or a series of photos. [Nomination hint: the impact is always greatest when the before and after photos are taken from the same angle & distance.

Nominations

For all of the categories the panel will only judge from those submitted to them – so don’t be shy to nominate yourself – we know those in the Empty Homes field often work on their own and may not have colleagues to put them forward. Nominations will be accepted from Monday 26th of August until Monday 23rd of September 2019, using the buttons above.

Decision committee

The decision committee consisting of the award sponsor, Howdens Joinery, and the Scottish Empty Homes Partnership Advisory Group who will meet in October 2019 to agree on the winners. The winners will be announced at the Scottish Empty Homes Conference 2019.
