If the council decides that it isn't appropriate to apply for an antisocial behaviour order, there might be other options available to alleviate the problem. This section takes a look at some other possible solutions.
Acceptable behaviour contracts
Antisocial behaviour orders (ASBOs) won't be appropriate in all cases of antisocial behaviour. Sometimes everyone can agree on a solution without going to court. This often happens where children and young people are involved but it's an option for everyone. In cases like these, an acceptable behaviour contract may be drawn up.
Interdicts
If someone is hassling you directly and you are feeling unsafe in your own home, it might be possible to get an interdict against them to stop them coming near you or contacting you. This page explains more about what an interdict is.
Fixed penalty notices
The police now have powers to issue on-the-spot fines called fixed penalty notices (FPNs) to people who are behaving in an antisocial way and causing annoyance to others. This page explains more.
