Documents for rented properties

It's important to keep things written down when you're renting a place. Get organised with the Shelter rent book, inventory and lodger agreement.

To download some of our documents, you'll need to have Adobe Reader on your computer. You can download a copy free of charge from the Adobe website.

Your landlord or letting agent should supply you with an inventory. If they don't, you can download one here.

Rent book

If you don't have a rent book, keep records of your rent payments in case there is any dispute. You can download the Shelter rent book here and use it to keep track of your payments.

Sample lodger agreement

This is an example of an occupancy agreement between a homeowner (the landlord) and a lodger.
