Telling the tribunal about your access needs

The First-tier Tribunal for Scotland (Housing and Property Chamber) is a free public service. It's like a court but less formal.

If you need help to take part in a housing hearing, you can let the tribunal know.

The tribunal must make reasonable adjustments for you if you're disabled.

You can fill in a form to explain what help you need. This is called the inclusive provision questionnaire.

You can download the form here: Inclusive provision questionnaire (pdf, 207 kb)

Help to get into the building

Tribunal hearings are sometimes held in person. The tribunal must make sure you can attend safely.

In the first part of the form, write any physical access needs you have. This could be:

  • a ramp instead of stairs

  • a lift to reach other floors

  • level access to the entrance

Taking part

The second part of the form is for things that will help you understand what’s happening and join in, for example:

  • asking for letters to be sent in large print

  • a hearing loop system if you use a hearing aid

  • a sign language interpreter

  • a spoken English interpreter

  • a separate quiet room for a break

Bringing someone for support

You can bring a friend or family member for support at the tribunal.

It’s best to let the tribunal know who will join you. You can include this in the second part of the form, or tell them on the phone or by email.

Make sure you include your case reference number when you contact them.

Sending the form

There is no deadline but send the form as soon as you can. This gives the tribunal time to get everything ready for you.

You can send it by email or post.

Getting more help

If you’re not sure what to write or need help with the form, you can contact the tribunal:

The staff cannot answer questions about your case or defence but they can help with information on access needs.
