Your housing rights in the cost of living crisis

The temporary rent cap and eviction ban in Scotland ended on 31 March 2024.

The rent cap for private tenants

During the rent cap, if your landlord sent a rent increase notice the maximum increase was 3%.

Now, you can challenge a rent increase of any amount. The maximum increase will be 12%.

The eviction ban

During the eviction ban, some eviction orders were delayed until 31 March 2024.

Now, your landlord still needs an eviction order from a court or tribunal to make you leave.
