Who this workshop is for

This workshop is for people working in housing and homelessness who want to develop their knowledge and understanding of homelessness and people's rights.

Workshop details

The workshop covers the duty of local authorities in cases of homelessness, the rights of people who are facing homelessness, and how to provide advice about homelessness.

The workshop uses a combination of trainer presentation, case study participation, group discussion, and a question and answer session facilitated by the trainer.

Topics include: 

  • making a homeless application 

  • a local authority’s duty to accommodate 

  • homeless enquiries  

  • housing support duty 

  • homelessness decisions  

  • the appeal and review processes

Learning outcomes

At the end of this workshop, learners will be able to:

  • provide advice and rights information to people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness

  • explain the local authority’s duties

  • identify when homelessness decisions can be appealed
