Online learning tips

Follow our tips for browsers, devices, and online learning.

These will help you access all course activities and materials and improve your training experience.

All our courses are available on Moodle, an online platform designed for learning.

What web browser to use

A web browser is the application your computer uses to access websites.

Moodle recommends using the latest version of one of the following browsers:

  • Chrome

  • Firefox

  • Microsoft Edge

Check your browser settings

Our training modules use pop-ups to open and download materials.

Many browsers, devices, and networks block pop-ups by default, so check that your browser is enabled for pop ups.

How to enable pop-ups

To enable pop-ups in Chrome:

  • click the menu in the top right

  • select settings

  • go to advanced

  • choose content settings

  • select pop-ups and redirects

  • allow pop-ups

  • add learning.scotland.shelter.org.uk to the allowed sites list

To enable pop-ups on Firefox:

  • click the Firefox menu button

  • select options

  • go to content

  • allow pop-up windows or select exceptions

  • add learning.scotland.shelter.org.uk to the exceptions list

  • click close

To enable pop ups in Microsoft Edge:

  • click the tools button

  • select internet options

  • go to privacy

  • choose settings within the pop-up blocker area

  • add learning.scotland.shelter.org.uk to the exceptions list

  • click close

Check other settings

Check that the following settings are also enabled:

  • enable cookies

  • enable JavaScript

Troubleshooting tips

Try clearing your browser history and cache if something is not displaying correctly or your screen is blank or frozen.
