Work for us

Find out more about working for Shelter Scotland. As well as our job listings, we usually have a wide variety of volunteering opportunities available.

A home is a fundamental human need, as vital as education or healthcare. In Scotland today, that right is denied to thousands of people whose lives are blighted by homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction.

The time for change is now. Together with individuals, in communities and across society, we will lead the way for a safe home for all. But we need your help to do it.

We’re looking for passionate and dedicated people with expert knowledge, experience, and talent to help us achieve our vision of a safe, secure and affordable home for everyone. We offer a huge range of roles throughout our organisation.

Whatever you do, you can join us. Be the change you want to see in your world.

We do the right things

Shelter Scotland has been accredited as a Living Wage employer. The Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually. The Living Wage is calculated according to the basic cost of living using the 'Minimum Income Standard' for the UK. Decisions about what to include in this standard are set by the public: it’s a social consensus about what people need to make ends meet.

Find more information on the Living Wage and being a Living Wage employer from the Living Wage Foundation.

We also have a clear policy in place around modern slavery.

Our commitment to diversity and inclusion in recruitment

At Shelter Scotland, we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home and fight the social injustice at the core of the housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we're here to help, and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside of Shelter Scotland, and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

Our day-to-day work

We provide help and advice

Face-to-face, over the phone, and online, we provide free, confidential advice to people with all kinds of housing problems, and we tailor our expert advice and support to individuals.

We make a difference

We challenge people in power to make our vision of a home for everyone a reality. We lobby the government for new laws and policies, and more investment, to improve the lives of homeless and badly housed people. And our influential campaigns raise awareness of the housing crisis in the media and to the public, who help us fight for solutions.

We research and inform

We develop practical solutions to address the housing crisis, and promote good practice, publish reports, and deliver professional training within the housing sector.

We’re here for everyone, but only with your support
