Leave a gift in your will

By leaving a gift to Shelter Scotland in your will, you can help us to be there for people struggling with bad housing and homelessness, long into the future.

It's easier than you think, and means we can help even more people find a safe and comfortable home, not just a place to sleep.

With you every step of the way

Leaving a gift in your will, no matter how big or small, could help us give struggling families the support they need. We’re here to help you do that.

Our will-making guide takes you through all the things you’ll want to think about when preparing to make or update a will. And our Legacy Adviser is available to provide support and advice - by email or over the phone - whenever you need it.

Why leave a legacy to Shelter Scotland?

Hear why supporter, Frank Leighton, has decided to leave a gift in his will to Shelter Scotland:

It wasn’t till later that I realised I’d spent my early childhood in a slum. Our home in Lochee had two rooms, a kitchen and an outside toilet we shared with another family.

There were nine of us: three adults and nine kids because my auntie and her son lived there too.

Dad died young, so Mum was always a hero for me. She just went out, got a job as a school cook, and supported everybody.

When I was five, we moved to Kirkton, to a brand new house in a new scheme. A garden, three bedrooms - though I still had to share with two of my brothers - big living room, kitchen, bathroom...

Having a decent home and your family around you… it’s a fundamental thing. It made all the difference to me, the opportunities I had, and the life I led.

So making sure that everyone has a home seems like a very important thing to support in your will.

It’s no problem at all to arrange. And my feeling is: think about your family, then, if you’ve got anything left over, give it to people that need it more, you know? People less fortunate than you.

We didn’t have much to spare growing up. But if anyone came about, mum fed them and looked after them. That’s just the way that she was, you know? It’s how I want to be too."
