Comment on removal of Local Housing Allowance cap
Posted 25 Oct 2017
Commenting on the UK government’s announcement that the Local Housing Allowance cap will not apply to supported housing or the social housing sector, Graeme Brown, Director of Shelter Scotland said:
“On the face of it this is very welcome news and we look forward to seeing the detail behind this announcement.
“This is particularly good news for younger people under the age of 35 who were going to be hit hardest by the LHA cap in relation to the shared room rate, which was going to make it very hard for people to pay their rent.
“We hope this is a sign the UK government is listening on welfare reform and now moves to halt and fix the roll-out of Universal Credit.
“We now also need to see the cap lifted for the growing number of people who rely on private renting.”
