Shelter Scotland’s unmissable message to party leaders ahead of upcoming election

A jaw-dropping 3D billboard has burst onto the streets of Glasgow with an unmissable message for Scotland’s party leaders: Enough promises. Build more social homes.
Unveiled in the busy Tradeston area, passers-by stopped in their tracks as a towering gran appeared to spill out of the billboard, urging the public to tell politicians that the housing emergency can no longer be ignored.
The installation comes as new Scottish Government figures reveal affordable housebuilding is falling well short of targets, with the housing emergency impacting 2.3 million adults amid soaring rents, rising homelessness and mounting pressure on families across Scotland. Shelter Scotland is calling on party leaders to put housing at the heart of their manifestos ahead of the election and commit to building the social homes Scotland urgently needs.
Shelter Scotland Director Alison Watson said:
“Enough is enough. It’s time for party leaders to put housing front and centre of their manifestos. Independent research shows we need at least 15,693 social homes every year over the next Parliament if we want to reduce homelessness. This can be a reality- but it needs to be done quickly with long-term investment.
“Right now, affordable housing delivery across Scotland remains too slow, too little and too late for the thousands of children spending Christmas without a home.
“We know social homes will bring down rents, benefit people’s health, education and wellbeing. They can transform lives.
“It’s time for the public to say to party leaders that enough is enough. It is time to build Scotland. Build hope. Build social homes.”
