A Tenancy Deposit Protection Scheme for Scotland

Over 173,000 households live in the private rented sector in Scotland with an estimated £50 million of tenants’ money held as deposits.

In Scotland, unlike many other countries worldwide, there is no regulation of rental deposits in the private rented sector. Landlords in Scotland are free to determine how deposit money should be held, how quickly it should be returned and who should benefit from the interest accumulated during the tenancy.
