Homelessness training series

This series is aimed at people working in frontline services who need to understand homelessness. It's suitable for people who are new to their role and those who want to refresh their knowledge.

Each session will focus on a specific homelessness topic, with a Q&A at the end and several polls throughout.

Sessions will be delivered online via Zoom. Each one can be booked for multiple people and there are a maximum of 100 places available per session.

You do not have to attend the whole series. You can sign up for individual sessions only.

Costs

  • each session costs £20 (plus VAT)

  • book 3 sessions for £50 (plus VAT)

Session topics and content

Session 1: making a homeless application

This session explores:

  • making a homeless application

  • who can apply as homeless

  • the duty of a local authority to accept a homeless application

  • the meaning of ‘homeless’ under the Housing (Scotland) Act 1987

  • the threshold for an application being taken and repeat applications

  • the right to temporary accommodation pending enquiries

The session will run on Thursday 23rd January 2025, from 11:00 to 12:00.

Session 2: homeless enquiries

This session explores:

  • homeless enquiries conducted by a local authority after a homeless application is accepted

  • intentionality

  • local connection

The session will run on Thursday 30th January 2025, from 11:00 to 12:00.

Session 3: homelessness decisions and reviews

This session explores:

  • notification of homeless decisions

  • the right to request a review of a homeless decision

  • judicial review

The session will run on Thursday 6th February 2025, from 11:00 to 12:00.
