Giving £48 could fund two webchats, giving expert digital advice for someone facing homelessness

A safe home after a long period of uncertainty

Today in Scotland, many families remain trapped in unsuitable temporary housing and face increasingly complex, distressing situations. No one should live in fear of where they will sleep, yet this is the devastating impact of Scotland’s housing emergency.

Samuel’s* personal circumstances forced him to make a homeless application. He tried to explain his circumstances to the council but was not listened to. He felt completely alone.

His family was placed in temporary housing, but they received a notice to leave. Samuel’s homeless application was rejected, and he was told he was ‘not homeless’. He did not know where to turn until he called Shelter Scotland and spoke to Jennifer, one of our advisers. She listened and told him he could appeal the council’s decision.

When Shelter Scotland challenged the unlawful decision, the council overturned it, and Samuel's family were placed in safe temporary accommodation before moving into a permanent home in October. He said,

' When I got the keys, I was extremely happy. I look more relaxed now, back to being social. I feel empowered knowing Shelter Scotland is there.'

A donation from you today could help fund expert legal advice for families like Samuel’s, giving them the power to challenge an unlawful decision and a safe home for their family.

*Samuel's name has been changed to protect his identity.
